Something not working, or a question about Emanata? Write to us:
Tell us which device you're reading on (iPhone, iPad or Mac, and its iOS, iPadOS or macOS version), Emanata's version (in Settings), and what happened. If a particular comic is the trouble, say what kind of file it is. A screenshot helps.
Questions
- How do I add comics?
- Put them in the Emanata folder in iCloud Drive, from the Files app on iPhone and iPad or from Finder on a Mac, and they show up on all your devices. You can also tap + and choose Add Comics…, drop files onto the library, or open a comic from Files or Finder. To read a folder you keep somewhere else, choose Add Folder… (on iPhone and iPad that includes Dropbox, OneDrive and servers you've connected in Files).
- Which files does it read?
- CBZ, CBR (RAR 4 and RAR 5), CB7, CBT and PDF. It doesn't read EPUB comics, password-protected archives, or comics locked to another app or store with DRM.
- Where do I get comics?
- Emanata doesn't sell comics or come with any. It reads DRM-free files you already have, such as downloads from stores and publishers that sell DRM-free comics, your own scans, and public-domain comics. To try it out, download Atomic Mouse #5 (Charlton, 1953, public domain; 13 MB) and open it in Emanata.
- Why doesn't my place sync between devices?
- Your place syncs through iCloud. Check that each device is signed in to the same Apple Account and that iCloud Drive is on, with Emanata allowed under iCloud in Settings (System Settings on a Mac). Emanata recognizes a comic on your other devices by its file name and size, so a copy that's been renamed or changed starts again from the beginning.
- A comic has a cloud on it. What does that mean?
- It's in iCloud Drive but not on this device yet. Open it and it downloads; its cover appears once it has.
- A comic is in the wrong series, or has the wrong title.
- Emanata uses the series and issue number in the comic's ComicInfo.xml if it has one, and otherwise reads them from the file name. Renaming the file to something like Series Name 012 (2024).cbz puts it right.
- Two-page spreads are split across two pairs.
- Some books pair up one page off. While reading, open the reader's options and turn on Shift pairs by one page. Emanata remembers it for that comic.
- Can I turn pages without the sliding?
- Yes. Set Page turn to None in Settings or in the reader's options, and pages change instantly.
- How do I read manga?
- Comics marked as manga in their ComicInfo.xml open right to left on their own. For any other comic, turn on Right to Left in the reader's options.
- Can I use it on iPhone, iPad and Mac with one purchase?
- Yes. Buying Emanata once gets it on all three with the same Apple Account.
- How do I get a refund?
- Purchases are made through Apple, so refunds are too: go to reportaproblem.apple.com and choose Emanata.
